Getting started with Spark Jobs

Find your first match

1. Look around first if you want. You can browse real jobs without an account, on your phone or at sparkjobs.ca/app/ in any browser. When you're ready, create your account with your email.
2. Tell Spark what you're after. Onboarding asks your school, program, interests and the kind of work you want: internship, co-op, summer, part-time or gigs. Every step except email is skippable, but each one you fill makes your matches smarter.
3. Swipe the deck. Green check = interested, X = skip, arrow = go back. Every card shows a live match score; tap a card to see exactly WHY you match: skills, distance, schedule, your program.
4. Build your resume in minutes. Home → Resume Builder. Answer three quick questions for an instant AI draft, or upload one you already have. Pick a template, export a clean PDF. Spark AI flags weak bullets the way real screening software does.
5. Apply or reach out. Apply straight from the job page, message employers in the app, and track everything under Applications.
6. Ask the Assistant anything. The orange button is your AI career coach: interview prep, pay questions, cover letters, all grounded in your own resume.

Under 18? You can browse and apply to jobs like anyone else. Claiming local gigs checks your region's legal working age first, and under-16s need a parent or guardian's okay on file.

Post your first role today

1. Create your account and pick Employer. Your account type is chosen once at signup, so pick the side that fits you. Most employers do this on a computer at sparkjobs.ca/app/, which is the same dashboard as the phone app with more room to type.
2. Post a job in minutes. Post Job → title, description, pay, location → tap "Improve with Spark AI" to polish the draft → choose how long it stays live (7 to 90 days) → publish. Posting jobs is free, with no per-post fee. Until your business is verified you can keep 5 posts live and publish 3 new ones a day.
3. Get verified (free). Dashboard → Get verified: send your website and work email. Once Spark confirms your business you get the Verified badge students look for, and the posting limits are lifted.
4. Watch it work. The dashboard shows live views, saves and applications for every post.
5. Meet your candidates. The Candidates tab ranks students by real match factors like skills, availability and distance, and shows you why each one fits. Message them directly.
6. Need more? Employer Pro unlocks prompt-based candidate search without posting a job, lets you boost up to 3 posts at a time higher in the student feed, and raises candidate views to 100 per day.

Get help, or offer yours

1. Post a gig: yard work, moving help, tutoring, snow shoveling. Describe it, set what it pays, publish. Students nearby see it instantly.
2. Or offer a service. Students can post the work they offer (like a lawn-care side business) so neighbours come to them.
3. Claim with confidence. Before anyone posts or claims, both sides confirm a short legal check-off, and Spark enforces the legal minimum working age for your region automatically.
4. Chat, do the work, rate each other. Everything happens in the app, with report and block controls built in.

Partner with Spark

A partnership gives every student your school verifies Spark Pro, at no cost to them. You decide who counts: students join with a join code you issue or with your approval, and a Students console shows your roster and seat use and lets you revoke anyone. Campus and District plans also let your careers team post directly to your students, and District plans import your existing job board automatically every day. In the app: Settings → Partner with Spark, or email support@sparkjobs.ca and we'll set you up directly. Plans start at C$199/month, billed directly (never through the app stores).

Start your school console:

1. Open sparkjobs.ca/app/ in a browser, or get the app (App Store; Android by early-access invite), and sign up as an Employer; pick “Campus department” as the organization type.
2. Open Settings → Partner with Spark → Apply to partner, and pick Starter, Campus or District.
3. Spark reviews you, invoices you directly and switches your plan on. You get a notification and your School console unlocks: join codes, verified students, and posting to your students on Campus and District.

Students: get Spark Pro through your school

Choosing your school during onboarding only helps match you to jobs; on its own it unlocks nothing. If your school partners with Spark, verify that you actually attend it: in the latest version of the app, open Settings → Verify your school (or Settings → Partner with Spark → "Are you a student?"), and enter the join code your school gave you, or ask your school to approve you. Depending on the code, you're covered straight away or once a school admin approves you. Verifying with your school email address is coming soon. Verification lasts until the end of the school year (August 31), or until your school's contract with Spark ends if that comes first, so verify again when the new year starts. You can leave from the same screen at any time.

Your school sees your name and profile photo, your school, your grade or year, how you verified and the dates. Verifying never shows it your email, date of birth, résumé, messages, applications or location. If you apply to a job your school itself posts, it sees that application like any employer would. Already paying for Spark Pro yourself? School coverage does not cancel that subscription; cancel it in your app store account. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
